How many batteries does it need?

We have left plenty of space for batteries, you need 24volts and you can use two 12v or four 6volt.

How long will it run on one charge?

This depends on factors such as what battery package you have fitted and what are the running conditions. Good batteries on an average track with reasonable passenger load will see you run for as much as 8 hours on a charge.

How do you transport it?

The body-shell lifts off in one piece. Take out the batteries, disconnect the motors, undo the wing nut on the bogie pivot and lift off the chassis and you are left with two bogies. The chassis is heavy and require two men to lift it. The whole operation takes approx 10 minutes.

What happens if the batteries run low whilst I am out on the track?

The battery indicators on the hand control and in the loco will warn you when your charge state is low and the loco will be running slower. If you do run low, you can engage the freewheel facility with a switch on the chassis and the loco can then be towed or pushed without generating a back emf which can be potentially damaging to the controller.

Where do I sit when driving?

Behind the loco, we would suggest a driving car just for the driver as you can set it up to be comfortable and to carry all your requirements for a days driving, tea and sandwiches etc. You can also sit on the first passenger car. The remote handset allows you to have all the major controls comfortably to hand. Should the control lead become disconnected or is severed the loco will automatically shut down and draw to a halt.

How many passengers will the loco haul?

Our customers tell us they are hauling trains of 26 passengers on club tracks.

How long will it take to build?

Phoenix kits are supplied with a built and finished chassis, with all electrics installed.

The bogies are built and only require the bolt on detailing parts to finish.

The bulk of the work required is in the body-shell, which is supplied, in grey gel coat.

This takes typically around 60 hours to prepare and paint.

A total build time of approx 80-100 hours is average and most customers complete the kit over a period of 3-4 months.
