The 5" gauge Class 50 Hoover model was designed with The English Electric Company's original brief in mind. The Class 50 Group allowed us access to Class 50 Ark Royal in order to undertake an accurate survey. The result was our highly detailed model locomotive. Our Class 50 matches our Class 52 for power and style, available from £3,250.

Information

In 1966 the original design brief given to The English Electric Company was to produce a medium output locomotive, suitable for modern day operating requirements and benefiting in the many advances in rail traction since previous orders.

In 2004 we have adopted that design brief and applied it to our model of the Class 50. We have incorporated new technology such as CNC batch production and laser cut components. We now use a Mosfet based solid state speed controller and the latest chemical etching processes to achieve the detail and accuracy required by todays discerning modeller.

We were kindly allowed access to Class 50 Ark Royal by the 50 Group in order to undertake a full survey of the locomotive. Taking original measurements and photographing all detailing ensures accuracy and a comprehensive amount of detailing.

We converted the data we collected into the model you see today.

English Electric produced a fine Locomotive and we have followed their lead and developed a Fifty to be proud of.

Class 50 features:

  • Accurate one piece composite body
  • Etched windscreen frames
  • Separate polyurethane moulded grilles
  • Roof detailing
  • Cab interior with controls, seats and bulkheads
  • Milled from solid Aluminium bogie detailing
  • Investment cast steel working buffers
  • Powder coated chassis
  • Kit supplied with built bogies and wiring loom installed
  • Photo-etched and lost wax brass detailing parts
  • 12 month warranty.

The Hoover will available in original or rebuilt versions and will incorporate the same drive train used in our class 52 model. This is a well proven design with the power to haul passengers and to haul them all day. We are confident we met our design brief and we may also have met English Electrics as well.
