Class 52 Western

The Class 52 Western is a 5" battery-electric locomotive available as a kit or "Ready to Run". It features a high level of detail (we've even included the driver's ash tray) and is accurately scaled to ensure it's as close to the real thing as you can get. The 4 x 150 watt, 24V motors and welded steel chassis ensure that you get a powerful and durable locomotive.

Traction

Battery/Electric - 24volts DC with four 150 watt 24V motors and a 130 amp rated digital speed/motor controller with regenerative braking.

Control

130 amp Digital controller with TruCharge battery condition indicator and on board diagnostics.
Hand held controller connected to loco by single cable. Can be used right or left handed. The unit has dead-mans speed handle , direction and two tone horn controls plus secondary battery condition indicator.
PCB relay board with power outlets for two tone horns and extra output for customer defined accessory. Additional onboard switches allow electronic speed restriction (half of full speed) and freewheel facility.

Mechanical

Welded 3mm steel chassis has integral battery tray and is supplied powder coated in black. Bogies 3mm laser cut steel with integral suspension CNC axles and wheels. Bogie detailing is investment cast steel spring beam and brake parts.

Body

Body is a one piece composite (GRP) moulding with chemically etched window frames and acrylic windows. Grilles are seperate polyurethane mouldings as are the interior bulkheads, driving desks and seats. White metal kit for interior detailing and lost wax brass for exterior detailing.

Safety

On board thermal overload protection. Intelligent sensing of battery over charge or under charge. TruCharge indication of motor faults and motor wiring faults. Reverse polarity protection. Low profile gold plated battery connectors.
70 amp main circuit breaker. Auxiliary fuses for handset and horns.
Loco will stop if handset is disconnected. Loco will stop if handset lead is severed. Loco will not proceed if it detects a fault and indicates the fault via the TruCharge indicator. Fault can be rectified and system reset. Controller will recheck system and operate normally when fault is cleared.

Chassis assembled, welded and black powder coated. Wiring loom assembled and fitted with 130 amp motor controller, horns, fuses and battery connections fitted.
Milled from solid Aluminium front and rear valances with clevis drawbar pin and authentic hook and screw coupling.
Remote hand controller with keyswitch, speed/brake lever and switches for direction and horns and associated leads.
Bogies assembled and wired.
Bogie detailing parts, investment cast steel side beams and brake detailing with brass brake clinch bars
GRP body moulding with lost wax brass detailing kit and separate polyurethane grilles.
Acrylic windows with etched metal window frames.
Roof fans and grilles. (Can be customer wired to operate)
Name, number and shed plates to customer's choice (All names available)
All fasteners
Approximately 40 hours assembly for loco (excluding painting).
